About
Made possible by BlueCheck Incisive Technologies Description: This course is designed for dental hygiene educators to deepen their understanding of Caries risk Management and effectively teach risk-based prevention strategies to students. The course integrates evidence-based methodologies with hands-on application of Povidone-iodine 10%, xylitol for xerostomia management, and fluoride-based interventions for caries prevention. Participants will explore the latest research on caries risk principles, learn how to incorporate fluoride therapies and risk assessment tools into curriculum development, and experience firsthand the benefits of these preventive approaches. By the end of the course, educators will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to enhance their teaching and improve patient outcomes through a proactive, risk-based approach. Objectives: Identify key risk factors for dental caries and xerostomia, utilizing appropriate risk assessment strategies, and integrating these concepts into modern dental hygiene education. Evaluate current evidence-based interventions including povidone-iodine 10%, xylitol-based products, and fluoride therapies, and analyze their effectiveness in preventing caries and managing xerostomia. Demonstrate clinical and educational integration by practicing proper application of Povi-One, xylitol spray, and fluoride varnishes/gels, while developing strategies to embed caries risk protocols and product training into dental hygiene curricula and case-based decision making.
